Rory Hazel Tihnen Klein was born on Friday, March 25, 2016 at 9:58am at St. Barnabas hospital in Livingston, NJ. At 25 weeks, 2 days she arrived 15 weeks early weighing in at just 1 pound 10 oz. (725 grams) and 12.5 inches in length. On this day, our hearts were so immediately filled with love, but this will be forever entwined with grave concern for our daughter’s immediate survival.
On June 29, 2016, Rory left the NICU after a 3 month stay and is a healthy baby - weighing in at 6 pounds, 8.2 oz. She needs close monitoring and follow-up because she was born so tiny, but we couldn't be more grateful that she is such a fighter and did so well overcoming the obstacles that she faced in the NICU.
During our many hours in the NICU visiting Rory, we got to know many NICU nurses and doctors and we are truly grateful that we get to call the amazing staff there our family. We are humbled by their dedication to the tiny and sick babies they serve every day. They spent countles hours telling us about Rory's progress, medication, and care. They taught us how to care for our daughter from day one - even when she was in an incubator and touch was painful for her. Their care for us and for her was unparrelled and we feel so lucky to have landed in this hospital.
We hope you will join us for the Miracle Walk this year as part of Rory's Warriors! More information about the NICU is below and demonstrates the truly remarkable work they do saving the tiniest babies - like Rory.
As a level III Regional Perinatal Center, the NICU offers the latest treatments and modalities in the field to provide the most advanced care for more than 1,100 premature and ill newborns each year. Our NICU has one of the best infant survival rates among neonatal intensive care units in the nation.
On behalf of the entire NICU family and the 1,100 babies we care for annually, I hope you can support me and my team for this year's walk. Your commitment and generosity help to guarantee a strong future for the NICU and Saint Barnabas Medical Center.
You can walk with me on October 16th or donate to my team. Your support will matter to so many people. Please join me today!
